Internal Gear Pump — SeriesFBEI
Internal gear technology for gentle transport of viscous fluids. Quiet operation, low pulsation, and continuous flow — ideal for demanding industrial applications.
TL;DR
The FBEI internal gear pump is a positive-displacement pump with a crescent separator that transports viscous fluids with continuous flow and low pulsation — flow proportional to rotation, independent of pressure.
It is self-priming (no foot valve), reversible and very low-shear — ideal for viscous and shear-sensitive fluids such as chocolate, adhesives and polymers.
An optional heating jacket keeps pumping viscosity: steam up to 185 °C or thermal fluid up to 232 °C, both at 10 bar.
Suitable for heavy oils, asphalt, bitumen and petroleum derivatives, with an optional integrated relief valve; the large FBEI-LS version uses a speed reducer for large-scale transfer.
Per API 676: 10 catalogued models from 1" to 4" in three construction configurations — with integrated relief valve, compact and heavy-duty 3" — manufactured and tested on an in-house hydraulic bench in Cabreúva-SP since 1944.

Internal gear pump for viscous fluids
In an internal gear pump, a single drive gear turns the rotor gear at low relative speeds — the fluid moves through the pump with less turbulence and reaches the process with its structure preserved. It is the configuration FB engineering recommends when fluid integrity matters as much as flow.

Operating Principle
Positive displacement pumping cycle with internal gear and crescent separator

Suction
The rotor (internal gear) is driven by the shaft and meshes with the idler (external ring gear). In the disengagement zone, the volume between the gears progressively expands, creating a partial vacuum that draws fluid through the suction port.
Crescent Isolation
The fixed crescent-shaped separator — the crescent — fits between the rotor and idler, hermetically isolating the suction chamber from the discharge chamber. This prevents backflow and ensures flow directionality.
Volumetric Transfer
Fluid trapped between the gear teeth and the crescent surface is carried from suction to discharge by positive displacement. The volume delivered per revolution is constant and independent of system pressure.
Discharge
In the re-engagement zone, the rotor teeth re-mesh with the idler ring, progressively reducing the chamber volume and forcing fluid out through the discharge port — with minimal pulsation and no significant product shear.

Frequently Asked Questions
Technical questions about the FBEI internal gear pump line.
What is an internal gear pump?
An internal gear pump uses an inner rotor (drive gear) and an outer rotor (ring gear) to create pumping chambers that transport fluid smoothly and continuously, with low pulsation and quiet operation.
What fluids can FBEI pumps handle?
FBEI pumps are versatile and handle fluids from low to extremely high viscosity: lubricating oils, resins, hot-melt adhesives, chocolate, molasses, paints, varnishes, bitumen, polymers and viscous chemicals in general.
What is the advantage of internal gear over external gear?
Internal gear produces smoother flow with less pulsation than external gear, operates more quietly, is self-priming and handles wider viscosity variations. Includes integrated relief valve and is available with mechanical seal or packing.
Can the FBEI pump operate with hot fluids?
Yes, FBEI pumps are available with heating jacket to maintain fluid temperature during pumping. The jacket supports steam up to 185°C and thermal fluid up to 232°C. For higher temperatures, consult our engineering team.
What is the FBEI-LS and how does it differ from the standard FBEI?
The FBEI-LS (Large Size) is the heavy-duty version of the FBEI internal gear pump, designed for industrial high-volume applications. It uses gear reducer drive to generate high torque at low speeds, ideal for extremely viscous fluids such as asphalt, bitumen and heavy oils in large volumes.
Why does the FBEI-LS use a speed reducer?
The reducer converts the high motor RPM into low pump RPM, generating high torque. This is essential for pumping extremely high viscosity fluids in large volumes without damaging the product or overloading the equipment.
What is the Brazilian alternative to Viking Pump for internal gear pumps?
FB Bombas' FBEI line is the Brazilian internal gear pump alternative covering the same technical segment served by Viking Pump (IDEX). It includes 10 catalogued models from 1" to 4" per the official technical manual MAN001-10, with rotor + idler + crescent operating principle, integrated relief valve and optional heating jacket (steam up to 185°C / thermal fluid up to 232°C). Construction in cast iron, carbon steel or 316 stainless steel. Manufactured in Cabreúva-SP since 1944, per API 676, CRCC Petrobras qualified supplier — Family 6 (Rotating Equipment).
How to replace a Maag pump with an FBEI?
Maag (Sulzer group) operates in the same technical segment of industrial internal gear pumps covered by the FBEI. FB Bombas evaluates connection/flange dimensional equivalence for retrofit on a case-by-case basis through the application engineering team in Cabreúva-SP. The FBEI offers 10 catalogued models from 1" to 4" in three construction configurations (with integrated relief valve, compact and heavy-duty 3") + FBEI-LS engineered-to-order version for large capacities in asphalt and bitumen. API 676 compliance, integrated relief valve as standard.
Is there a Brazilian alternative to Tuthill (L Series, C Series)?
Yes. FB Bombas' FBEI covers the same technical segment as Tuthill's L, C and GlobalGear positive-displacement internal gear pumps. Three construction configurations: with-relief-valve (5 models: HL12, KK2, LQ21, LS3, M4), compact (2 models: GG1, HJ12) and heavy-duty 3" (3 models: AS3, AK3, AL3). Sealing by mechanical seal or braided packing, integrated relief valve as standard, optional heating jacket. Manufactured in Cabreúva-SP, CRCC Petrobras qualified supplier — Family 6 (Rotating Equipment).
Does the FBEI replace Hayward Gordon (IG Series)?
The FBEI line covers the same technical segment as Hayward Gordon IG Series pumps for viscous fluids with low pulsation. Differentiators: 10 models catalogued in published technical manual (MAN001-10) + FBEI-LS engineered-to-order for large capacities in asphalt, bitumen and heavy oils. Construction in cast iron, carbon steel or 316 stainless steel, with 40-80 mesh suction filter recommended. FB Bombas is a Brazilian manufacturer since 1944 with hydraulic test bench and CRCC Petrobras qualified supplier status.
Do RZR Bombas Positivas and FBEI serve the same segment?
Both are Brazilian manufacturers of positive-displacement internal gear pumps with CRCC Petrobras qualification. FB Bombas' FBEI has 10 catalogued models from 1" to 4" in technical manual MAN001-10 across three construction configurations, API 676 compliance, integrated relief valve and optional heating jacket (steam 185°C / thermal fluid 232°C, both at 10 bar). FBEI-LS engineered-to-order version for large capacities. In continuous operation under the same corporate identity since 1944, manufactured entirely in Cabreúva-SP.
Does the FBEI comply with the API 676 standard?
Yes. The FBEI line is built per API 676 — Positive Displacement Pumps — Rotary, the American Petroleum Institute standard for rotary positive-displacement pumps used in refining and petrochemicals. The 10 catalogued models (1" to 4") follow the "gear within a gear" principle (rotor + idler + crescent), with integrated relief valve, sealing by mechanical seal or braided packing, and dimensions published in the official technical manual MAN001-10. In-house hydraulic acceptance test bench and Petrobras CRCC qualified supplier Family 6 — Rotating Equipment.
How does the FBEI "gear within a gear" principle work?
The FBEI uses a rotor with external teeth rotating inside a ring with internal teeth. Between rotor and ring, a fixed crescent-shaped element isolates the suction chamber from the discharge chamber. As the teeth separate, they create vacuum at the suction; as they re-engage, they transport fluid by positive displacement. Result: practically continuous flow, low pulsation and quiet operation — ideal for shear-sensitive viscous fluids such as chocolate, hot-melt adhesives and polymers.
Does the FBEI have integrated overpressure protection?
Yes. All 10 FBEI pumps catalogued in the MAN001-10 manual feature an integrated adjustable relief valve, with no need for external devices on the discharge line. The adjustment screw cap is oriented toward the suction side. Additional manual recommendation: install a 40-80 mesh suction filter to protect against particulate. Pumps are self-priming and reversible when the application requires, with alignment tolerances of 0.05 mm radial and 0.6° angular.
Is FB Bombas (FBEI) qualified by CRCC Petrobras?
Yes. FB Bombas is a qualified supplier in Petrobras' Cadastro de Registro Cadastral de Contratados (CRCC) under Family 6 — Rotating Equipment, eligible to supply industrial pumps (including the FBEI line) for Brazilian Oil & Gas projects. Active corporate registry 61.381.240/0001-78 publicly verifiable at Brazilian Federal Revenue. In continuous operation under the same corporate identity since 1944.
What is the FBEI lead time compared to an imported pump?
FBEI lead time is defined case by case by the application engineering team in Cabreúva-SP, considering the model (among the 10 catalogued), construction configuration (with-relief-valve, compact, heavy-duty 3"), materials (cast iron, carbon steel or 316 stainless steel) and heating jacket. Because manufacturing is fully Brazilian — in-house CNC machining and assembly with hydraulic test bench — lead times tend to be significantly shorter than equivalent imported pumps, with no dependency on international logistics, customs clearance or intercontinental transit time.
How to request technical quotation and the FBEI technical manual?
The FBEI technical quotation is requested directly from the application engineering team. Provide the fluid (with viscosity and temperature), required flow, discharge pressure, available NPSH and desired materials. The official technical manual MAN001-10 — with dimensions of all 10 catalogued models, operating principle, sealing options, installation requirements and recommended spare parts — is available at /en/technical-manuals/fbei in Portuguese, English and Spanish, free for download in PDF.
