Frequently Asked Questions

Who manufactures gear pumps in Brazil?

FB Bombas has been a Brazilian gear pump manufacturer since 1944, with its own factory in Cabreúva, São Paulo: engineering, CNC machining and test bench on the same site. It manufactures the FBE series (external gear, DN 1/8" to 6") and the FBEI series (internal gear), in compliance with API 676 — with spare parts and technical support direct from the factory, with no import dependency.

What is an external gear pump?

An external gear pump uses two gears rotating in opposite directions to create suction and pressurize the fluid. It is ideal for viscous fluids as it maintains constant flow regardless of product viscosity.

For which applications are FBE pumps indicated?

FBE pumps are ideal for transfer of asphalt, lubricating oils, vegetable oils, chocolate, molasses, resins, paints, varnishes and other viscous fluids up to 100,000 SSU.

Can FBE gear pumps operate with heating?

Yes, we offer optional heating jackets to maintain the fluid at adequate temperature. This is essential for products like asphalt that solidify at room temperature.

What is the difference between a gear pump and a centrifugal pump?

A gear pump is positive displacement - maintains constant flow regardless of viscosity. A centrifugal has variable flow and is more efficient for low viscosity fluids like water.

What is the maximum viscosity the FBE pump supports?

FBE pumps can work with fluids up to 100,000 SSU viscosity. For extremely high viscosities, we recommend a heating jacket to facilitate flow.

What materials are available for the gears?

We offer gears in hardened carbon steel, nodular cast iron, 304/316 stainless steel and special materials. The choice depends on the pumped fluid and operating temperature.

Does FB Bombas manufacture gear pumps for dosing?

Yes, our smaller models (1/8" to 1/2") are ideal for precise dosing of additives, dyes and other products that require controlled and repetitive flow.
